Loyalist College to Host 13th Annual Junior Iron Chef Competition, March 1st

February 27, 2014

Loyalist College is pleased to invite members of the community to the annual Junior Iron Chef Competition on Saturday, March 1st. It will take place in the Dining Hall of the Kente Building. Organized by second-year Loyalist Culinary Management students, the competition involving area high schools enables teams of aspiring chefs to showcase their culinary skills. While the students work their magic in the kitchen, guests can enjoy the 6th Annual Food and Beverage Show in the Dining Hall, with booths featuring demonstrations by Loyalist students ranging from plate decorating to knife sharpening.

The three finalists competing in this year’s championship are Prince Edward Collegiate Institute (PECI) in Picton, St. Peter Catholic Secondary School in Peterborough and Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI) in Kingston. The judging panel will include Loyalist Chefs John Schneeberger and Levi Richards, as well as Loyalist Culinary student Brennan Roy.  The teams will compete for prize packages, including Loyalist tuition rebate certificates of $500 for each member of the first place team, $300 for each member of the second place team and $200 for each member of the third place team. In addition, prizes are provided by sponsors such as Trent Valley Distributors, Ontario Pork Producers, Bib’s Meats and Nesda Technologies.
