LOYALIST COLLEGE TO HOST ‘YOUR VOICE, YOUR VOTE,’ A 2015 FEDERAL ELECTION ALL-CANDIDATES DEBATE ON OCTOBER 7

A debate featuring candidates from the Bay of Quinte riding for the October 19 federal election will be held at Loyalist College on Wednesday, October 7 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm in Alumni Hall. Organized by students and faculty in the School of Media, Arts + Design, the event will be broadcast live over CJLX 91X FM; Scribble Live online; QNet News Twitter Live and Facebook Live, and recorded for TVCogeco. Acting Dean of the School of Media, Arts + Design Kathleen Bazkur will moderate the event.

What:  ‘Your Voice, Your Vote’
            2015 federal election, Bay of Quinte riding all-candidates debate                     
            Members of the public and media are invited to attend

When:  Wednesday, October 7
            7 pm – 8:30 pm

Where:  Alumni Hall at Loyalist College

Debate format:  Welcome and introductions (5 minutes)
                           Speech from each candidate (3 minutes)
                           Questions from the floor and student e-host
                           Closing remarks from each candidate (2 minutes)

Moderator:  Acting Dean of the School of Media, Arts + Design Kathleen Bazkur

Students from the Journalism – Online, Print and Broadcast program will take questions from the audience in the Hall, while a student e-host will receive questions from the public sent in by student field reporters through Twitter, live blogging and Facebook.

“’Your Voice, Your Vote’ is one of the most comprehensive interactive events in the region,” said Journalism – Online, Print and Broadcast Professor Robert Washburn. “This debate is an amazing opportunity for our students to use the skills they have learned. Going out into the field to gather questions for our candidates and interact with the community gives them a very practical experience.”

As part of the Remote Event Production course, third-year Television and New Media Production students will record the debate, which will be broadcast on TVCogeco on October 8 at 8 pm.

“Television and New Media Production students will plan the broadcast of the event from the technical side of things, mapping out camera placement, producing and directing on debate night, and using the local TVCogeco mobile production truck,” said Television and New Media Production Professor Paul Papadopoulos.
