Loyalist College Welcomes Visitors and Community Partners

March 18, 2009

Loyalist College is bustling with visitors during Loyalist Days, scheduled to coincide with March Break from March 16 – 20. Registration begins at 10:00 am each morning, followed by guided tours of the campus. Academic program information sessions are available in the afternoons. For more information go to loyalistcollege.com.

The week also features Community Media Workshops hosted by the post-graduate Public Relations students at Loyalist College, from Monday through Thursday. These programs are organized for non-profit community organizations.  More information is available from Kerry Ramsay at 613-969-1913, ext. 2127.

The week of events began last Saturday, when the Loyalist College Community and Justice Services Worker program partnered with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services to provide an on-campus location for the Ministry’s Correctional Officer Applicant Test.

Professor Phillip Howlett explained that 18 second-year Justice Studies students joined with 25 members of the community to complete the test requirements.

“This is something that we collaborate on, as it gives the Justice Studies students exposure to Ministry testing, opens up possible employment within the field, and allows community members the opportunity to write the test without having to travel to Peterborough, Kingston or Cobourg,” he said.

Geoffrey Cudmore, Acting Vice-President Academic, agreed. “This is another great example of how our programs and staff work with their industry partners to the benefit of our students and the broader community,” he added.
