Loyalist Fall 2008 FOCUS in Weekend Newspapers

Watch for Loyalist College FOCUS – Continuing Education Opportunities in the August 8th Weekend Newspapers

The Fall 2008 FOCUS course calendar will be distributed in area newspapers the weekend of August 8th.  The calendar lists Belleville and Bancroft on-campus and distance education course offerings as well as the classes offered in Brighton, Napanee, Picton, Stirling, Trent Hills – Campbellford, Hastings and Warkworth, Trenton, and Moira Secondary School in Belleville.  Over 900 courses and programs are available with the full listing of Continuing Education courses on-line at www.loyalistfocus.com. Many on-line programs have monthly intakes and most on-campus classes start the week of September 8th.

Exciting courses in this Fall’s calendar include: Designing Your Winter Garden, Veterinary Office Administration, Graphic Design, Gluten-Free Cooking and Web Programmer. Discover how to use diverse media to bring together an entirely new entity on paper or canvas with Valerie Kent in the Collage and Textured Art workshop. Start by walking and learn to run in the Running Buddies course, or develop tone, strength, flexibility and endurance without building bulk or stressing your joints in Pilates led by Susan MacDonald. Enjoy a multi-level tasting of The County’s finest produce, found completely from within a 100 mile radius, as Janet Craig introduces participants to the 100 Mile Menu.

Courses at the Bancroft campus include:  Soapstone Carving for Beginners, An Introduction to Wood Carving, Digital Art Studio, Adobe Photoshop, Photography Field Trip, Special Event Gift Baskets, For the Joy of Painting, Stained Glass, Astronomy Techniques and an introduction to Astro Photography.

Take advantage of the flexibility of studying part-time while working toward a career-oriented certificate or diploma. Part-time learners who need the flexibility that distance education offers, can join 45,000 students who take OntarioLearn courses every year across the province. Those interested in understanding more about on-line learning are encouraged to attend the free On-line Learning Seminars to be held on September 3rd from 6:15-7:15 p.m. in the Wilkinson Lecture Theatre at the College’s Belleville campus and at the Bancroft campus on August 20th from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m.
