Loyalist Hosting Back-to-Back Basketball and Volleyball Games

November 09, 2009

Basketball and volleyball fans will have two days of back-to-back action-packed Lancer entertainment at Loyalist College on Tuesday, November 10th and Wednesday, November 11th.  On Tuesday, the basketball teams take the court against George Brown College, with the women’s game at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men at 8:00 p.m. On Wednesday, the men’s and women’s volleyball teams will play at the same times against Trent University.

“It’s great to have four of our Lancer teams playing closely together like this because it energizes the whole campus,” said Jim Buck, Manager of Athletics and Campus Recreation. “The four teams themselves make quite a cheering section. We plan to combine that energy with the support of our Loyalist and community fans to cheer the Lancers to victory. The teams have chosen to promote Breast Cancer Awareness at the games and they would appreciate any support that can be offered toward this cause. We are honoured to have Andrée Mathurin-Scott, breast cancer survivor, friend and co-worker, make the opening serve at the women’s volleyball game on Wednesday.”

“I’ve been coming to Lancer games for many years, but this is the first time I’ve made the opening serve,” Andrée Mathurin-Scott added. “If even one person is helped by the teams’ support in heightening breast cancer awareness, that’s great. So think pink and join us at the games.”
