Loyalist Initiates Respect Campaign in Support of Positive College Environment

During the week of November 15th to 19th Loyalist College will launch Respect. Pass it on, an awareness campaign in support of the Respectful College Community policy.  Timing aligns with and recognizes the importance of National Bullying Prevention and Awareness Week. Loyalist has planned a series of activities and interactive events in order to generate awareness and understanding of the principles of the policy and maintain the College’s positive and respectful environment.

Planned activities include a wall of respect, speaker’s corner, on-line contest and a movie marathon. A Student Respect Crew will recognize respectful behaviour throughout the week.

Jocelyn Churchill, Human Resources Services Advisor, explained that the goal of the campaign is to build upon the College’s strengths and to make Respect. Pass it on an integral part of life at Loyalist.  “Loyalist is committed to fostering a caring culture in which every College community member is able to learn and work in an environment of mutual respect. Establishing and maintaining a respectful College community is a responsibility we all share. This campaign will provide opportunities for individuals to have input into ways that we can further develop these channels.”

“We recognize that we are very fortunate at Loyalist to have a caring community that recognizes the importance of human dignity and rights.  We are also mindful that we must always look to maintaining and improving in all areas that contribute to fostering positive and respectful attitudes, beliefs, actions and behaviours,” said Maureen Piercy, Loyalist College President. “Our goal is to build on our strengths and to ensure that the Respect. Pass it on campaign continues to be a part of our existing culture and the future of our Loyalist community.”
