Loyalist Students Recognized at Entrance Scholarship Reception

Loyalist College recently recognized this year’s Entrance Scholarship recipients at a reception held in the on-campus dining room, Club 213. Loyalist President, Maureen Piercy, welcomed the students to the College and presented each with a $2,000 scholarship.

 

This year, 37 students have been awarded the scholarship, for a total of $74,000.  The scholarships are awarded based upon an individual’s academic achievement of 85% in grade 11 and 12 courses.

"I graduated from high school three years ago and had been working, saving toward college," said Megan Hughes, one of this year’s award recipients.  A graduate of Trenton High School, Megan is currently enrolled in the Biotechnology program at Loyalist. “I applied for OSAP to come to Loyalist. The addition of this scholarship is very important to me. Receiving the entrance scholarship also made me aware of other scholarships and bursaries that are available and I have now completed applications for several of those. It has been a very positive start to my Loyalist experience.”

 

Awards Officer, Joanne Farrell, explained that, “Students received $179,200 at the 2009 Undergraduate Awards Ceremony through endowment funds and from community donors. In addition, an anticipated 270 students will receive awards at the 2010 Undergraduate Awards Ceremony scheduled for November this year.”
