New Members Join the Loyalist College Board of Governors

Five new members have joined the Loyalist College Board of Governors and were welcomed to their first official meeting on September 9th by Board Chair, Stuart Wright.

Matt Ireland – Mr. Ireland has more than 34 years experience as a property developer.  He is President and owner of White Pines Ltd., in Bancroft, a general contracting and commercial and residential building company, which he started in 1976.  He was instrumental in developing a number of main street properties and attracting new tenants including Canadian Tire, McDonalds, Price Chopper, a commercial plaza to accommodate the Provincial Courthouse and other government offices, and the first condominium in downtown Bancroft.  Mr. Ireland is a strong public service supporter and served on the Board of Community Development Corporation for six years, two years as Chair.  He attended Sir Sandford Fleming College to complete studies in the Real Estate Program.

Bruce McLeod – Mr. McLeod is Vice-President, Human Resources with Bioniche Life Sciences with responsibility for full Human Resources delivery for offices in Canada, the United States, and Australia.  He has 15 years of senior management experience in operations and human resources.  He also has teaching experience as an instructor for seven years at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology.  Before joining Bioniche, Mr. McLeod was employed with Farm Credit Canada where he held the positions of Director, Lending Operations in Listowel, Ontario, and Director, Performance Consulting and Total Rewards in Regina, Saskatchewan.  Mr. McLeod holds a B.A. from Carleton University and a Certificate in Adult Education from Saint Francis Xavier University.  He is currently completing an M.A. through Ambrose University, Alberta.

Cory McMullan – Ms. McMullan was appointed Chief of Police with the Belleville Police Service in 2009.  Her previous experience includes 23 years of service with the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service, where she held the positions of Inspector of Executive Services, Inspector of Operations and Staff Sergeant Planning, Adequacy and Professional Standards.  She holds a B.A. (Honours) from Carleton University and a Certificate in Police Leadership Administration from Dalhousie University.  She has completed the Police Leadership Program at the University of Toronto, and is currently enrolled in the MBA Program through the University of Leicester, England.  Chief McMullan is a member of the Rotary Club of Belleville and the Board of Directors of the Children’s Safety Village, and volunteers her services in support of many charity fundraising organizations.

Roman Pierce – Elected as Student Governor in 2010, Mr. Pierce is a mature student working towards combined two-year Accounting and two-year Business Administration Diplomas.  Prior to attending Loyalist College, Mr. Pierce held the positions of Financial Service Representative with MetLife Financial and Registered Insurance Broker, RIBO Licensed, with Marsh Insurance.  Mr. Pierce has a military career which spanned 13 years, with service as a member of the United States Marine Corps, the Michigan Army National Guard, the Kentucky Army National Guard, and the New York Army National Guard.  Mr. Pierce holds an Honours B.A. in History with an English Major from the Redeemer University/College, and has completed three years of studies towards a Masters of Divinity Degree.

Kathryn Soule – Ms. Soule has 37 years experience in education and is Director of Education for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board, a position she has held for the past five years.  Her previous positions in education include service as Deputy Director, Simcoe County District School Board, Midhurst and Superintendent of Education, with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board and Education Officer with the Ministry of Education.  She holds a Masters of Education – Education Administration from University of Toronto, a B. Ed. from Nipissing University, and a B.A. in English and Psychology, from Laurentian University.  Ms. Soule is a strong supporter of public service and has served on many professional and voluntary organizations.  She volunteers for United Way of Quinte and the Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation and various committees affiliated with the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.

The Board of Governors includes 12 community members who are appointed by the provincial College Compensation and Appointments Council, the College President, and four elected members representing the students, faculty, support staff and administration of the College.
