New University Agreements Lead to Expanded Opportunities

April 16, 2008

Loyalist College is pleased to announce that new articulation agreements have been signed with Davenport University in Michigan, Trent University in Peterborough and Griffith University in Australia. The agreements enable Loyalist graduates to transfer their college diploma credits toward a university degree.

“Signing these articulation partnership agreements opens a range of exciting opportunities for Loyalist College students and graduates,” said Loyalist President, Maureen Piercy. “Davenport, Trent and Griffith have long and well-respected traditions of offering quality degree programs. We feel that there is a very good fit between the institutions and our programs, in particular our business, media and childhood education programs.”

Loyalist’s agreement with Davenport University makes it possible for graduates with a two or three-year Business diploma to complete a Bachelor’s degree on-line. Many graduates with a three-year diploma will be able to complete their degree with ten Davenport courses. Davenport University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

“As an Ontario leader in offering on-line post-secondary learning opportunities, we are very interested in Davenport’s experience and offerings on-line,” added Dan Holland, Dean of Business, Bioscience, Justice Studies and Corporate Training. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our graduates and alumni to pursue a degree, while continuing to maintain their employment. As the global economy and knowledge network continues its rapid expansion, business and industry are looking for employees who embrace the concept of lifelong learning.  The opportunity to continue to work in your chosen field while gaining additional knowledge and skills should be of interest to many of our graduates. On the other hand, our agreement with Trent University is the perfect fit for students wishing to continue their studies on a full-time basis and complete their degree within a shorter length of time in a more traditional setting.”

The articulation agreement with Trent University provides a seamless option for graduates of Loyalist’s three-year Business Administration, Business Administration – Human Resources Management, Business Administration – Materials Management, or Business Administration – Accounting programs. They will receive advanced standing with ten of their required 20 credits toward the Bachelor of Business Administration degree. The agreement enables students wishing to continue their business studies full-time to complete their degree within two years.

Griffith University will recognize graduates of Loyalist’s three-year Animation program by honouring their diploma credits, enabling them to complete their Bachelor of Multimedia in one year, or their Bachelor of Visual Media within two years. Graduates of Loyalist’s Early Childhood Education program will be able to enter year three of Griffith’s Bachelor of Arts (Education), and complete their degree within two years. Graduates of the BA (Education) may be admitted to the one-year Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary) which is a professionally recognized teaching qualification.

“It is encouraging to see the level of recognition for the program content offered in Loyalist programs,” said Geoffrey Cudmore, Associate Vice-President Academic. “We are very proud that Griffith University realizes our graduates’ potential. Many students are interested in studying in different parts of the world and this agreement lets them build on their current diploma while pursuing their learning internationally.”

Loyalist College currently has more than 60 agreements with degree-granting institutions in Canada, the United States and Australia. For more information regarding these agreements contact the Registrar’s Office at (613) 969-1913, ext. 2204.
