NPOs Receive Communications Boost from PR Students

Non-Profit Organizations Receive Communications Boost from Public Relations Students at Loyalist College

The post-graduate Public Relations students at Loyalist College are delivering a complimentary series of communications workshops for non-profit organizations in the Quinte and surrounding area. This year’s Loyalist Community Media Workshop Series is in response to the enthusiastic response of the 2007 participants. The workshops address the difficulties that the non-profit sector faces in regard to small staff numbers, many of them volunteers, tight budgets and the necessity of wearing numerous hats in roles which people have little or no previous experience or training. They are designed to assist these groups in discovering new and creative ways to communicate within their organizations, with other similar groups, and with the media.

This year, the College’s Public Relations students have an exciting new line-up of community media workshops to help refocus the communications efforts of non-profit organizations. The dates and topics include:

Monday, March 10

Mission Possible:  creating or reviewing your organization’s mission statement

What’s Your Position:  explore your organization’s positioning statement and/or create a targeted tagline that sets your agency apart

  

Tuesday, March 11

Inside the PR Tool Kit:  take stock of the free publicity tools available to your non-profit organization and get tips on how to use them

Blogging Basics:  create a free web log (blog) to enhance the web presence of your non-profit organization

Wednesday, March 12

Podcasting 101:  discover how podcasting can enhance your existing non-profit communications program

Thursday, March 13

Speaking Out:  gather essential media interview tips for your organization’s key spokespeople

Building Donor Relations: engage your donors with simple yet sincere relationship-building communication tools

Volunteers for Life:  gain valuable tips for recruiting new volunteers and inspiring loyalty with those you already have
