Nursing Student Rebecca Vandertoorn Receives $5,000 Scholarship

September 04, 2012

Nursing student Rebecca Vandertoorn was honoured with a $5,000 scholarship on Thursday, August 30th at Loyalist College where she has completed her first and second years of a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and is now entering Brock University where she will complete her third and fourth years of the collaborative program.

“It was an honour to be recognized by Loyalist College for my hard work in the classroom, as well as my clinical nursing placements over the past two years,” said Rebecca. “Now that I am moving to Brock University, the money will make the transition that much smoother and the financial burden will be much less.”

Loyalist College President Maureen Piercy and Dean Karen Brooks-Cathcart commended Rebecca on her achievements, which included a 92.57 percent GPA and a perfect score on her clinical performance.

“I was also very impressed with your personal essay,” said President Piercy. “I really appreciated the comments you made in terms of trust and integrity being critical to a high functioning health professional, which you will be. Congratulations!”
