OCAA Division II Championship Rugby Game at Loyalist Nov. 3

October 29, 2010

Loyalist College will be home field for the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) Division II Championship Men’s Rugby game on Wednesday, November 3rd at 5:00 p.m. Loyalist’s opposing team will be determined by the results of other league games being held this Saturday. An awards and medal presentation will follow the championship game.

Professor Larry Cook, co-coach of the team, praised the hard work that the players have put forth this year. “The championship will be a hard fought game regardless of who we play. Both Georgian and St. Lawrence Colleges have very strong teams. Our players have worked hard all season to get home field. We hope to use this to our advantage.”

“The team had a critical win last Saturday against Georgian as we knew with a win that Loyalist would host the final,” said Sean McMurtry, a second-year Nursing student and graduate of the College’s Pre-Health Science program. “The win was all important; it showed our team that we have a quality side that when pressed we can step-up and deliver.  The team, the coaches, and support staff worked tirelessly to get to where we were last season, that is, the finals and we have done that.  Now it’s time to put it all together and finish strong on our home turf with the tremendous support we receive from our fan base here at Loyalist.”

“The team has had a great season and we encourage rugby fans of all ages to come out and support the Lancers as they look to defend their provincial championship,” said Jim Buck, Manager of Athletics and Campus Recreation.
