Loyalist College Open House Great Success for All

April 23, 2008

Morgan and Terri Jansen

“After visiting the College and taking part in the activities and workshops that were in place for the Open House I will feel very comfortable if Morgan decides to attend Loyalist,” said . She and her daughter Morgan made the two-hour drive from Smiths Falls to join over 800 other guests who came to explore the campus and discover all that Loyalist has to offer. “Our day has gone really well. Not only were all of our questions answered — it was almost like everyone here anticipated the things we would need and like to know. We won’t be returning home filled with uncertainties. It was a great day.”

Morgan is excited by the thought of entering college and all that it entails. “It’s a fresh new start, with the opportunity to make new friends and focus on learning things that I’m really interested in,” she added. “I’m looking at the Practical Nursing program and was impressed with the labs here. The hands-on learning that the College offers is perfect for me. That’s the way that I learn best. The faculty is so friendly and helpful — I think that they will make the transition from high school to college an easy one.”

Not all of the Open House guests will be graduating from high school this spring. Catherine Cupit is retiring from CFB Trenton after 17 years as an Avionics Technician and will enter the Business Administration program in September. “I’ve been thinking about this for some time now,” she said. “I did several skills tests and each time business administration came out on top. This was a real confidence booster and confirmed that I am making the right decision. I’ve always been a believer in life-long learning and feel much more focused now than I did when I graduated from high school. I’m a little nervous, but I also know that this will be a good thing for me. I’ve enjoyed my military career immensely but feel that I am now ready for a change. My husband and daughters are very supportive about my decision to return to school. My ten-year-old thinks it’s great that her mom will be doing homework along with her. I feel that it is a positive thing that my daughters will see me working toward this goal. I plan to complete the two-year Business Administration program and then continue on to the third-year Human Resources designation.”

Those who are interested in exploring opportunities at Loyalist but who were unable to attend the Open House are encouraged to call the College at (613) 969-1913, ext. 2204 and arrange a tour at their convenience. Anyone who is considering returning to school and is uncertain as to what their study options are — full-time, part-time, or simply where to begin — are invited to attend the Return to Learn scheduled for May 27th. College representatives will be there to answer your academic and financial questions. Mature students who are currently attending Loyalist will be present. You will have the opportunity to meet them and ask them questions regarding their studies and how they have been able to balance them with their personal responsibilities. Learning is for everyone — visit Loyalist and find what’s right for you.
