Practical Nurses Achieve 100% Success in Registration Exams

November 01, 2007

Loyalist College Practical Nursing graduates of 2007 have received notification that all 24 members of the class were successful in their registration examination. Each of these graduates ranked at or above the provincial average in all areas assessed. This qualifies them to work as a Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario.

“My success in writing the examination is definitely a reflection of how well the faculty prepared us for it,” said Sarah Freymond. “Loyalist was a great learning environment that was extremely supportive. In the classroom it was always evident that the professors were teaching from their experience, and this definitely strengthened the program. My favourite part of the Practical Nursing program was having the opportunity to take the knowledge that I had learned in class and apply it in a clinical setting. I am now employed at Quinte Healthcare in North Hastings where I grew up. I’m doing what I always dreamed of doing.”

“This is the second consecutive year that graduates of the Practical Nursing program have achieved a 100% success rate on the registration examination,” said Karen Brooks-Cathcart, Dean of Health and Human Studies. “In addition to congratulating the graduates on their success, I want to acknowledge the commitment of faculty and staff to providing a very high quality program. They have all worked extremely hard to achieve this success.”

“I started working full-time at Renfrew Victoria Hospital immediately after graduation,” commented Sharon Lain. “I have only positive feelings about my career choice and Loyalist College. The small class sizes, approachable professors and clinical experience made me feel confident and prepared to start my nursing career.”

In addition to the two-year Practical Nursing diploma program, Loyalist also offers a one-year Pre-Health Science program and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing collaborative program with Brock University. The first two years of the degree program are taken at Loyalist College and the final two at Brock University.
