#COVID19Kindness: Providing Health Checks to CFB Trenton Guests

March 27, 2020

Good afternoon,

As you may know, many of our Health Sciences faculty work locally with health care partners. I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge two exceptional faculty, Nicki Armstrong (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) and Patricia Munroe (Practical Nursing), who work at the Trenton Cadet Training Centre at the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton.

In February and March, Nicki and Patricia were called upon to assist those in quarantine and become part of a multi-disciplined team of health care professionals under the authority of the Public Health Agency of Canada at the NAV Centre in Cornwall and CFB Trenton. They compassionately provided the support needed and rose to the physical and emotional challenges that come with working in such unique environments.

The power of touch and human connection is an essential part of nursing. It’s how they assess and interact with their patients, and communicate with their peers. In a quarantine situation, the dynamics of care shift. While wearing full personal protective equipment, Nicki and Patricia relied solely on their eyes and voices to communicate with those in quarantine.

Thank you to Nicki, Patricia and all of our frontline faculty members, on behalf of the College, for responding to our country’s request for support and providing health checks for the guests in our community. We are lucky to have you as part of Team Loyalist.

Sincerely,

Ann Marie Vaughan
