Provincial Survey Ranks Continuing Education at Loyalist First in Ontario

May 08, 2009

The results of the 2008 Continuing Education Provincial Survey have been released, with Loyalist College earning the first-place position in the medium-sized college category. This division was comprised of eight Ontario colleges with continuing education (CE) registrations between 2,029 and 7,753 students during the qualifying period in the fall of 2008.

The survey included questions about the students’ reasons for registering, their learning experience, the college services available, safety, and their general satisfaction and perceptions of the college.

“We work to continually expand our course offerings and delivery options to meet the needs and requests of our adult learners. The results of this survey validate our efforts and encourage us to pursue these efforts,” said Trudie Lake, Manager of Continuing Education. “Continuing Education at Loyalist is experiencing exceptional growth. In addition to the traditional CE course offerings, expansion into new areas of distance delivery such as the Academic and Career Entrance Program (ACE) and apprenticeship programming is resulting in a rapidly growing demand for Loyalist’s programs and services.”

“We have launched exciting new initiatives such as our AZ Truck Driver program, expanded our e-lab programs to Picton, Sharbot Lake and Christian Island, and we now offer Personal Support Worker training on a part-time basis in Picton, Napanee and Rama. In recent years, the government regulations have mandated educational requirements within the institutional food service industry as well as the daycare field. Loyalist is one of the few Ontario colleges with the Food Service Worker certificate program and the Early Childhood Education diploma program available both by distance correspondence and on-line, resulting in an extraordinary number of registrations from across the province. Loyalist also became the first college in Ontario to offer delivery of the Developmental Services Worker apprenticeship program by distance this spring.”

Start dates for Continuing Education courses and programs are ongoing throughout the spring and summer months.  Further information is available in the FOCUS calendar and on-line at www.loyalistfocus.com.
