QNetNews Introduces ‘Your Voice, Your Vote,’ Municipal Election Project at Loyalist College

May 16, 2014

2014 is a municipal election year, and voters in the Quinte region will be going to the polls on October 27. QNetNews, an online news source for the Quinte area, has launched ‘Your Voice, Your Vote,’ web page as a go-to news and discussion centre for municipal election coverage.

Throughout May and June, three Loyalist Journalism students will be digging deep to engage with the community on issues such as downtown improvement, the future of the Yardman Arena and a potential casino in Belleville. Through qnetnews.ca and social media, they will post blogs, interviews and more.

Quotes

“This project allows us to build our students’ journalistic skills in a way that is meaningful to our community.” – Kathleen Bazkur, Acting Dean of Media, Arts and Design

“It is a real opportunity, having our team of reporters delve into important events in the life of our community. This is going to be an interesting municipal election year in this region.” – Andy Clarke, Faculty Advisor on the project

“Everyone in Belleville has a voice that deserves to be heard. We want to hear from people about the issues that matter to them and then have council candidates respond.” – Suzanne Coolen, Loyalist Journalism student
