Why wait until September when you can start the New Year training for a rewarding career? 

January start programs at Loyalist College are an excellent opportunity to retrain, build on current credentials or move from high school to post-secondary studies. Choose from more than 15 programs, including diploma, certificate and post-grad options in media, arts and design, health, human and justice studies and business and management studies. 

Diploma programs: 

    • Accounting (two or three-year diploma)

      Engage in real-world simulations and community projects such as Loyalist’s student-run tax clinic. Grads find employment as accountants, financial analysts, budget officers, account managers, financial planners, payroll officers and internal auditors. 

    • Business/Business Administration (two or three-year diploma)

      Explore a broad mix of business options and enhance your learning with faculty coaches and business mentors. Through community partnerships you will apply your skills to real-world projects for local businesses. 

    • Business Sales & Marketing (two-year diploma)

      Make an impact on the bottom line – a talent that’s in demand in virtually every sector. You could work in hospitality, commerce, health care, IT, professional sports, manufacturing, advertising, telecommunications, entertainment, event planning, or just about anywhere! 

    • Community & Justice Services (two-year diploma)

      Help build safer communities by working with people at risk. Grads work with youth and/or adults in youth custody facilities, child welfare homes, correctional facilities, attendance centres, community justice agencies, victim support agencies and residential facilities.

    • Customs Border Services (two-year diploma)

      Grads are prepared for entry-level positions with customs brokerages dealing with importing and exporting; private businesses; freight forwarders that ship goods throughout the world; and the Canada Border Services Agency. 

    • Developmental Services Worker (two-year diploma)

      Learn to effectively support people with physical and/or developmental disabilities as valued members of the community. This two-year diploma is available full-time, part-time or by distance.

    • Esthetics & Spa Management (two-year diploma)

      Train in a full range of salon and spa services, including manicures, pedicures, facials, hot stone massage, body wraps, hair removal and make-up artistry. Students operate an on-campus day spa, delivering full esthetic services in a supervised environment. 

    • Photojournalism (two-year diploma) 

      Build a solid industry-standard portfolio that demonstrates the Loyalist Photojournalism signature “triple threat skill set” of still digital photography, news and feature writing and multimedia storytelling techniques. Get hands-on experience working on Loyalist’s award-winning online community newspaper, The Pioneer, and the student-run online news service QNet News. 

    • Police Foundations (two-year diploma)

      Train for an intellectually and physically challenging profession in policing. Loyalist’s program teaches to the most rigorous standards used in the hiring process, preparing grads to place among the top tier of applicants in this competitive field. 

    • Protection, Security and Investigation (two-year diploma)

      This unique program prepares graduates for private and public law enforcement opportunities as investigators, enforcement officers, special constables, fraud investigators/analysts and emergency planners.

Certificate programs:

    • Art and Design Foundation (one-year certificate)

      Gain a balance of skills in fine art and design while exploring a variety of media. This certificate opens the door to further studies in a wide range of creative and artistic programs. 

    • College Technology and Trade Preparation (one-year certificate)

      Interested in a career in the skilled trades but not sure where to start? Explore your career options and gain experience in a range of skilled trades while earning credits toward diploma studies at Loyalist in your future field of choice. Apply now for February 2014.

    • General Arts and Science (one-year certificate, two/three-year diploma) 

      Earn credits you can transfer to another program while you explore your career options. Define your interests and goals with the guidance of experienced faculty, and explore opportunities you may not even know about! You can graduate after one, two or three years.  

    • Media Experience (one-year certificate) 

      Get a hands-on, creative introduction to media, arts and design that prepares you for post-secondary diploma studies. Students create a targeted learning portfolio and can earn course exemptions toward a diploma from Loyalist. 

    • Personal Support Worker (one-year certificate)

      PSWs provide supportive care to clients who are experiencing physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioural challenges. Earn a full-time one-year certificate in 24 weeks and make a difference every day, helping people live with independence and dignity. 

 Post-graduate certificate program:

    • Human Resources Management (one-year post-graduate certificate)

      Successful business is all about people management. Human resource management professionals help guide organizations with sound practices – hiring the right people, training personnel to be effective, and developing strategies to motivate individuals and teams. Build on your post-secondary diploma or degree, applying HR theory in a practical setting. All courses are approved for credits toward nationally-recognized designation as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).
