Students Move Into New Loyalist College Residence Complex

September 09, 2010

Below is the original news release published at the time of this event. While some references are no longer current, the article provides details about important milestones in Loyalist’s history.

During the past weekend, upper-year Loyalist College students moved into the first phase of the new on-campus Residence townhouse complex. The Residence is a project of Campus Development Corporation, in partnership with the College. Work has been completed on Phase 1 (32 bedrooms), and work will commence in the near future on the remaining 18 units (72 bedrooms), for completion and occupancy in May 2011. The new accommodations, combined with the College’s original Residence facilities, will result in a total of 580 on-campus rooms.

“This is an important project for the College, as year-after-year we have had large wait lists in both first- and second-year applications for Residence,” said Chris Carson, Residence Manager. “The new upper-year townhouses will allow us to offer more spaces to first-year students in our existing buildings, without compromising available space for our returning students.”

Ryan Hayes, a second-year Television and New Media Production student from Arnprior, is thrilled to be moving into the new Residence. “What’s not to like? Everything is bright and new and the lighting is great because of all of the windows. We have our own washer, dryer and dishwasher. They are really great places. I’m looking forward to meeting my roommates and living here for the year.”

Fred Pollitt, Director, Student Life, feels the new residence will have a positive impact on student life. “I believe that this Residence for upper-year students will bring a whole new dynamic to campus life. It will help to develop and nurture the College experience and enhance students’ life at Loyalist. I know the students who moved in this weekend are very, very impressed with their new home away from home.”
