Three Consecutive Years of 100 Percent Success for Loyalist Paramedic Grads

September 17, 2007

Paramedic graduates from the Loyalist College Bancroft Campus were 100 percent successful in their Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (AEMCA) examinations for the third consecutive year. The AEMCA is a mandatory provincial examination, required for employment as a Primary Care Paramedic (P.C.P.) in Ontario.

"The instructors in our program had us well prepared for the provincial examination," stated paramedic Sean Cavanagh. "Being a graduate of Loyalist’s program was a definite advantage when looking for employment. Paramedic services think very highly of Loyalist graduates. The course is very challenging, and I think they know that to be successful in it individuals must be highly motivated. This motivation is a strength in their career as paramedics."

"I feel that one of our program’s greatest strengths is its part-time format. This enables the instructors to bring their energy and current job experiences into the classroom, which injects a relevance and believability into the program content which students can share and build upon," said Tom Malloy, Dean of the Bancroft Campus. "These exam scores are provincially recognized proof that the Paramedic program in Bancroft is preparing graduates to be highly skilled professionals. When this program was initiated in 1990 there were approximately 25 applications. This number has grown to over 180 applications each year."

"The Loyalist Paramedic program has a strong reputation for excellence," said George Burton, Vice-President Enrolment Management and Student Services. "In addition to these excellent examination results, they have also showcased their exceptional practical skills by placing in the top two teams for the past five consecutive years at the annual Skills Competition sponsored by the Durham Paramedic Association in Oshawa. To compete against working paramedic professionals, as well as students from other programs, and repeatedly bring home top honours is a definite testament to their skill level."

The Loyalist College Paramedic program is offered at the Bancroft Campus on a part-time basis. For more information regarding this and other Bancroft Campus programs call (613) 332-1743 or visit www.loyalistcbancroft.on.ca.
