TV and New Media Students Hold Awards Evening at Empire Theatre

March 28, 2008

On March 26th, friends, family and industry professionals gathered at the Empire Theatre in Belleville for the Television and New Media students fourth annual Sparkie Awards. The evening showcased the very finest student achievements including awards for a wide range of accomplishments in areas such as documentaries, commercials, field operators, movie trailers, music videos and major productions.

Carin Havekes will be graduating from the program this spring and was the recipient of the Best Overall Student and Best third-year Commercial Awards. She was also involved in the Best On Campus Episode as Technical Director and was Technical Director for the Santa Claus Parade which won Best Remote. "I have learned so much during the three years that I have been at Loyalist. The faculty has not only taught us the essentials of what we need to know when we are in the industry, but they have gone beyond that and showed us how to fully succeed in the television industry. Everything that I have learned here I am going to take with me, and have already started to apply in the industry. That’s one of the benefits of having a third year. We have that extra time to apply our skills and refine them so we are more comfortable with our abilities and strengths."
