TVNM’s 48-Hour Film Fest Results

September 24, 2010
Waking Up in the Morning Feeling Like P. Diddy took first-place honours at the inaugural Loyalist College 48-Hour Film Fest. Results were announced at the on-campus Shark Tank Pub on Wednesday evening after students, staff and community members viewed the entries and cast their votes. Second place honours went to Abandoned Blue, followed by Deal, Caged, Cyan True Love, The Interrogation and Fear Factor Super Fun.

Television and New Media Production students were challenged to create a short video within two days. Each team was given a colour, object and phrase to work into their production. Students Alex Huard, Melissa Barta, Kurtis Twigg and Adam Radzwinowksi, creators of Waking Up in the Morning Feeling Like P. Diddy, incorporated the colour gold, a toaster and the phrase ‘How am I supposed to make that work?’

A third-year student and member of the winning team, Alex Huard said, “This festival truly highlighted the talent, dedication and capabilities of Loyalist Media Studies students and what we are able to accomplish in only two days.”

“We’re thrilled with the success of the film festival,” said Michelle Grimes, Professor in the Television and New Media Production program. “All of the teams put forward great efforts and it was a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase their creativity.  I’m very thankful for the overwhelming support our students received from the College, the community and beyond.”

John McMahon, Vice-President Academic, acknowledged how the Film Fest contributed to the students’ learning experience. “With this project, the faculty initiated a challenge for students to draw on their technical knowledge, creativity and vitally important team-building skills while meeting a tight deadline. With a dash of healthy competition tossed into the mix, the students were placed in an environment reflective of one which they will be part of throughout their careers. Each of these components prepares them for success in the workforce and are strengths that Loyalist graduates are respected for within the media industry.”
