Personal Support Worker

Personal support workers provide a range of support to help their clients live as independently as possible. Assistance with the routines of daily living may include personal care, bathing, meals and home management.

Personal support workers are employed in hospitals, long-term care facilities, retirement homes and community agencies providing support in the client’s home. They work under the direction of both the client and regulated health care professionals such as registered nurses, registered practical nurses and physiotherapists.

Community-based delivery

This program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide personal care and home management services to clients in both community and institutional settings. This program provides supervised placement, followed by a preceptored placement in a nursing home and in-home agency and entitles graduates to begin working as personal support workers immediately upon completion of the program. In order to begin the program, we require students to have all upgrading completed.
