When the body is stressed, the nervous system generates the “fight or flight” response. The signal causes the adrenal glands to release hormones called adrenalin and cortisol which cause the heart to beat faster, respiration rate to increase, blood vessels in the arms and legs to dilate, the digestive process to change and glucose levels in the bloodstream to increase to deal with the emergency.

Emotions can also influence your physical health. Think about how your body responds to stress. Constant stress can cause tension, headaches, heart and/or stomach problems. On the other hand, having health problems such as disease or pain can affect your emotions and cause stress or depression.
