The Weston Family Scholarship in the Skilled Trades Application
Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated passion, desire and motivation to build a successful career in the skilled trades
- Commitment to maintaining a minimum of a 60% grade point average
- Willingness to provide mentorship to other students considering or who have entered skilled trades training programs
- Identifies how the bursary will improve the opportunity of successfully completing your program
- All required documents are completed and received prior to the submission date
Selected Post-Secondary Education (PSE) participants will:

Receive an initial bursary payment of $1,000.00 at the beginning of the first semester of their
PSE program - Receive a one-time tuition bursary (approximately $1,512) from Loyalist College, to help offset semester one tuition costs
If the selected student maintains a minimum 60% average throughout their academic studies and meet other program requirements:
- They will receive an additional payment of $1,000 at the beginning of semester two of their PSE program, with the condition the student remains in good standing as a Weston Family Scholar
- To encourage participants to enter the second year of their PSE program an additional $1,000 will be paid to the participant at the beginning of semester three with the condition the student remains in good standing as a Weston Family Scholar
- PSE students are eligible for a final payment of $1,000 at the commencement of semester four given the student has continued to meet the program requirements and has remained in good standing as a Weston Family Scholar
Selected Apprenticeship participants will:
- Receive an initial bursary payment of $1,000 at the beginning of the first level of apprenticeship
- Receive a one-time tuition bursary upon (approximately $400) from Loyalist College, to help offset level one apprenticeship tuition costs
If the selected student maintains a minimum 60% average throughout their academic studies and meet other program requirements:
- They will receive an additional payment of $1,000 at the beginning of level two of apprenticeship, with the condition the Apprentice remains in good standing as a Weston Family Scholar
- To assist Apprentices in achieving further success, an additional $1,000 will be paid to the participant at the beginning of level three apprenticeship training with the condition the Apprentice remains in good standing as a Weston Family Scholar
- Apprentices are eligible for a final payment of $1,000 upon successful completion of the third level of apprenticeship given they have continued to meet the program requirements
Eligibility Requirements:
Prospective students must be considering registration in one of the following programs:
Post-Secondary programs:
- Electrical Techniques (one-year)
- Electrical Engineering Technician – Industrial (two-year)
- Mechanical Techniques (one-year)
- Manufacturing Engineering Technician (two-year)
- Motive Power Fundamentals – Parts and Counter Personnel (one-year)
- Motive Power Technician – Service and Management (two-year)
- Carpentry and Renovation Techniques (one-year)
- Carpentry and Renovation Technician (two-year)
- Welding Techniques (one-year)
- Welding and Fabrication Technician (two-year)
Apprenticeship programs:
- Automotive Service Technician (apprenticeship)
- Process Operator, Food Manufacturing (apprenticeship)
Applicants are required to:
- Submit a signed and completed application form
- Submit a copy of most recent transcript (high school and/or College) with the application form
- Submit a copy of current résumé, listing all work experiences, volunteer experiences and extra-curricular activities (full-time and part-time) in school and in the community
