Community Members Invited to Audition

September 22, 2010

The Television and New Media Production students at Loyalist College are eager to begin the production of the yearly short features and television series written by the students. Actors are being sourced through a casting call which is extended to the community, encouraging those between the ages of eight and 60 to audition for a role on the big screen.

Auditions for the features and series will be held on Thursday, September 23rd from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria in the Kente Building at the College; Saturday, September 25th from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Bayview Mall, and Sunday, October 3rd from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Quinte Mall.

Two movie scripts have been chosen from the students’ submissions and they are about to begin casting, shooting and editing. Production is also underway for the College’s Quinteview, a documentary-style program featuring people, places and happenings in the Quinte region, and the On-Campus television series. On-Campus highlights Loyalist’s programs, services, events, sports and issues of importance to students. It will be aired on Belleville’s local station, Cogeco 4, starting in December.

This year’s scripts include Fabricated, the story of a lonely young man named Mike who is dealing with the potential loss of his job at an IT consulting firm. Just when Mike feels he has finally met a girl who understands him, it seems his best friend, a stuffed teddy, appears to be working against him. Resident Dork is about Chad, an every-day nerdy high school kid who battles the typical maze of bullies and mockery. The threat of a zombie infestation makes it necessary for Chad to save the day by leading his friends to safety, save his mom, and the day.

“We are reaching out to the College and our community because we are consistently thrilled with the talent that comes forward from the College, Belleville and the surrounding area,” said Peter Sinclair, a third-year Television and New Media Production student. “In the past we have had a great response from the area and we look forward to this continued participation.”

“The scripts have been written and edited by third-year students and we are excited by the results,” said Professor Kathleen Bazkur. “Now they’re in search of the actors who will bring their stories to life. Our community has a strong theatrical talent base and this is a chance for those individuals to expand their acting experience from live productions to the big screen. The third year of the program definitely becomes a community effort for our students.”
