Summer Programming at Loyalist College

May 03, 2011

New Additions and Returning Favourites

Loyalist College’s summer programming lineup includes workshops and camps that will appeal to all ages. Summer Arts offers adults a diverse selection of almost 50 creative opportunities for beginners, hobbyists and seasoned artists. Serious Summer Fun Camps for Kids and Teens returns with many favourites and some great new choices.

The Summer Arts program is in its 20th year of welcoming students from across Canada and throughout the Northern US. The majority of classes are held at Loyalist’s main campus in Belleville. Others are located on Amherst Island, just southwest of Kingston, and in Prince Edward County. Painting, writing, woodcarving, and rug hooking are just a few of the options available. Sessions begin in May and run through to September. Most programs are one week in length. Students studying at the Belleville campus have the option to stay in residence and take advantage of the affordable and convenient facilities.

“We are pleased to welcome our talented art instructors who include Claudia Jean McCabe, J. Douglas Purdon, Lucy Manley, Doug Mays and many, many more,” said Heather Cockerline, Program Coordinator in the School of Continuing Education. “Returning as an instructor is Darko Zeljkovic, a Loyalist Photojournalism graduate and award-winning photojournalist, whose most recent work includes a series of documentaries for the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre (PPC) and NATO.”

Trudie Lake, Manager of Continuing Education, said the College is pleased to be able to offer some great new options in the kids’ camp lineup. “Graffiti Art is an addition that we are very excited about. This form of artistic expression has grown from its underground roots to a popular and commercial art form. The work of instructor Nic Bamborough can be seen throughout Belleville at locations that include Doug’s Bicycles, Quick Cash, Harmony Music, Centennial Secondary School and the TD Bank. He will prepare the students to exhibit their work by the week’s end.”
