Belleville, Ontario, November 14, 2014 – At the November 13 meeting of the Loyalist Board of Governors at the Bancroft campus, Chair Brian Smith introduced new Governors Aleesha Camp, David MacKinnon and Jean-David Tremblay.

Aleesha Camp is President and owner of a four lawyer law firm with offices in Brighton and Trenton. Prior to 2013, she was a sole practitioner focusing on real estate, wills and estates, criminal, municipal and corporate commercial law. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University.  Following graduation, Ms. Camp taught the Estates and Real Estate course for Law Clerks at Loyalist College. She is a Cooperative Education Mentor to students at East Northumberland Secondary School. Ms. Camp has an impressive record of voluntary service, having served as a Board member and Gala Chair of the Quinte Children’s Foundation, Co-Chair of the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, and Gala Committee member of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation. She also served as a Board member of the Northumberland Legal Clinic, Ontario Legal Aid Area Committee, and was a founding member of the Brighton Barn Theatre. Ms. Camp’s term is effective until August 31, 2017.

David MacKinnon brings a wealth of experience to the role. He served as CEO of the Ontario Hospital Association and the Ontario Development Corporation. He has also served in senior capacities in the Bank of Montreal, the Ontario Department of Finance and the Nova Scotia Department of Development. In recent years Mr. MacKinnon served as a member of the governing Council of the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons and as Chair of West Park Health Centre, a Toronto rehabilitation hospital. He currently serves on the boards of the Canadian Standards Association and Quinte Health Care. A native of Prince Edward Island, Mr. MacKinnon holds a B.A. (Honours Economics) from Dalhousie University and an M.B.A. from York University. He has also studied at Harvard University, the European Institute of Business Studies and Oxford University as a Centennial Fellow, sponsored by York University and the CIBC.

Jean-David (JD) Tremblay was elected by Loyalist students to serve on the Board. Mr. Tremblay, who grew up in Quebec, is fluent in both official languages and is currently completing the second year of the Construction Engineering Technician program. He chose Loyalist for his post-secondary education following an 11-year career with the Canadian Forces. While attending Loyalist, Mr. Tremblay has been an active volunteer, and was the Student Government’s First-Year Leader for the Construction Engineering Technician program last year. He is a member of the Loyalist varsity cross-country team and the 2014 recipient of the Larry Cook Award, which recognizes the student athlete who best exemplifies the values of fair play, integrity and commitment.

The Loyalist Board of Governors comprises 12 external governors who are appointed by the Province, four internal governors, elected by students, academic, administrative and support staff of the College, and President & CEO Maureen Piercy.
