LOYALIST COLLEGE TO RECOGNIZE STUDENTS AT UNDERGRADUATE AWARDS EVENING, NOVEMBER 5

Loyalist College will present 281 students with 336 awards with a total value of over $200,000 during its annual Undergraduate Awards Evening on Thursday, November 5.

The Loyalist College Foundation has provided more than $165,000 of the total, including two new bursaries. The Foundation was established in 1995 to provide leadership in meeting the goals for long-term development and fundraising to benefit Loyalist students and programs.

Other funds are donated by individuals, businesses and community organizations. Their generosity has contributed to the development of four new awards this year.

New Foundation Bursaries:

Kevin Sansom Memorial Bursary  Presented to a returning student enrolled in a Media, Arts + Design program who demonstrates a high commitment to their program of study, particularly in adherence to industry standards. The student must exemplify collaboration, mentorship and show particular acumen in computer applications as they relate to their chosen field. This bursary was established in memory of Professor Kevin Sansom.

Janet Twiddy Memorial Bursary – Presented to a mature student who has overcome obstacles or challenges in life and has returned to post-secondary education. This bursary was established in memory of long-time faculty member Janet Twiddy.


Other New Awards/Bursaries:

Jim & Jane Harrison Bursary – Presented to a student from one of the Skilled Trades programs at Loyalist College.

Reid’s Dairy Bursary – Presented to a Business Sales & Marketing student for the best project submission for a new product launch by Reid’s Dairy.

Student to Student Bursary  This bursary was established by students in the General Arts and Science program in 2013 to help future students in their program. It is presented to a returning student in the Arts & Science program with a minimum 70 percent average.

Tony Grace Award – This award was established for a student in the Journalism – Online, Print & Broadcast program who has shown outstanding promise and proficiency in television/video news interviewing, hosting and anchoring while maintaining a minimum 80 percent average. Tony is a graduate of the Broadcast Journalism program, class of 2000.
