Proficiency in all areas of the English language is required by most employers in Canada and in many countries globally. The English for Academic Purposes Program (EAP) is a springboard into a better job, or further studies at college or university.
Graduates who successfully complete the EAP program with a minimum 75% average, will be given admission into a Loyalist College post-secondary program without having to provide an English proficiency score. Some restrictions apply for programs that demand a superior knowledge of the English language.
For admittance to most post-secondary programs, students who have only enrolled in one term of the program must provide an English proficiency score equivalent to a 550 TOEFL (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test) or 79-80iBT).
The EAP Program is for individuals for whom English is a second or additional language. This program will improve English language skills, removing a barrier to successful completion of subsequent academic programs or for further professional development. Emphasis is placed on effective writing, reading, listening and speaking comprehension. The curriculum focuses on formal English development for academic and professional purposes as well as for functional everyday usage. Students have an opportunity to interact with others from different programs through field trips and independent projects which allows them to plan and prepare for their chosen professional field of study.
